Additional services charge

Our additional services charge is in compliance with the local authority guidelines. This charge is this for consumables/additional services that we offer at Big Discoveries. 40p per hour will be charged per funded hour that you claim to cover the cost of consumables.

For example, if you claim 30 hours term time only will amount to a weekly charge of £12 or if you claim 23 hours stretched funding this will amount to a total weekly charge of £9.20.


Our additional services charge is applied for consumables such as, but not inclusive to, breakfast, a variety of snacks and sun cream in the summer.


**If you want to opt out of paying the additional charges, free child care provision spaces are available 1pm-3pm using Early years entitlement over 49 weeks. Speak to manager for availability**


Any hours attended outside of the government funding will be charged at the hourly rate additionally to this claim


*If you are claiming the Government funding you will not be charged if

·       The child is currently looked after by the local authority.

·        The child is no longer looked after by the local authority as a result of an adoption order, a special guardianship           order or a residency order. 

·       The child is entitled to Disability Living Allowance.

·       The child has an Education, Health and Care Plan.

·       The family receive Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit (or both) and their household income is £16,190 per                year  or less before tax.

·       The family receive the Working Tax credit 4-week run on (the payment they get when they stop qualifying for                 Working Tax Credit)

·        Their family receives Universal Credit and their household income £15,400 or less per year, not including                      benefits.

·       Their family receives Income Support, Income based Jobseekers Allowance, Income related Employment and Support Allowance, the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit

Please note that our “Additional services” charge is subsidised by the government funding for those in receipt of any of the above and we will receive additional funding for these children allowing us to cover this charge


Nappies, wipes and meals to be provided by parents. Breakfast, milk and healthy snacks will be provided by Big Discoveries.

Term Dates and Opening Information


We are open 49 weeks in the year, closing during Easter and Christmas. Our opening hours are 8am-5pm. We are closed on Bank Holidays.
